What is awarded to the All-Ireland Hurling champion?
A. Liam McCarthy Cup
B. Jules Rimet Trophy
C. Sam Maguire Cup
D. Tommy Tiernan Trophy
The All-Ireland Senior Hurling champion is awarded the Liam McCarthy Cup. The trophy honors Liam McCarthy, a London GAA board member who initiated the push for a trophy to give the senior hurling champions.
This trophy is based on a mether (medieval drinking vessel) and celebrated its centennial birthday last year, having been first awarded in 1923. The original trophy was retired for a replica in the 1990s. The original Liam McCarthy Cup now resides at the GAA Museum at Croke Park.
