How much is a goal worth in GAA?
A. 1 point
B. 2 points
C. 3 points
D. 4 points
In Hurling and Gaelic Football, a goal counts as three points. A goal is scored by striking the sliotar into the goal (in Hurling) or kicking/punching the ball into the goal (in football). Just like in soccer, the entire ball has to cross the line for the goal to count.
In GAA, goals are the first number on a team’s scorecard. A team with a score of 2-10 has scored six points from their two goals with 10 points for scoring over the bar, tallying 16 total points. A goal has been worth three points since 1896, but it was previously worth five points from 1892-1896 and was worth one point before then.
