Where was the 1947 All-Ireland Football Final?
A. Dublin
B. New York
C. London
D. Kerry
The 1947 All-Ireland Football Final was played at the Polo Grounds in New York City. While the All-Ireland Hurling Final remained at Croke Park in Dublin the week before, the Football Final was played overseas as more than 34,000 fans watched Cavan beat Kerry 2-11 to 2-7.
This was the first and only time an All-Ireland Final has been played outside of Ireland. The match was played in New York as a centenary anniversary of the Great Famine that forced mass emigration from Ireland to New York.
Admission to the match was just $2, compared to the price of $6 to see the New York Yankees defeat Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 7 of the 1947 World Series.
