Question: Which of the following is a GAA disciplinary card?
A. Blue Card
B. Black Card
C. White Card
D. Orange Card
GAA utilizes three cards: yellow, red, and black. Players are given a black card for cynical behavior such as blatant tripping, pulling down and bodychecking. Today, black card recipients are forced to serve a 10-minute penalty in the sin bin with no replacement as the recipient’s team is down a player for 10 minutes. The black card is used to bridge the gap between a yellow card (moderate fouls; no time off the field) and a red card (serious offense; disqualified from the contest without substitution replacement).
The black card was originally introduced in 2014. The recipient was originally forced to be substituted off and not allowed to return, allowing the team to remain at full strength. The rule was changed in 2020 to force the recipient off for 10 minutes with no substitute.
